Are You Funny? North London search begins for the next comedy star

North London’s search for its next comedy star is moving to the stage this September, when shortlisted contestants will battle it out over two live heats for a place in the grand final and a chance to win £1,000.

Are You Funny? The Comedy Competition, organised by JTT Events in partnership with Jongleurs Comedy Club, attracted aspiring comedians earlier this summer, with applications to take part now closed.

Those selected will perform across two preliminary heats – in Enfield on Friday 4 September and Edmonton on Friday 18 September – with the strongest acts from each night progressing to the Grand Final on Friday 2 October.

Each contestant will have just three to five minutes to impress the judges and win over the live audience, putting their stand-up skills to the test in front of a North London crowd.

The eventual winner will walk away with a £1,000 cash prize as well as the opportunity to perform at Jongleurs Comedy Club, one of Britain’s best-known comedy brands.

Among those helping to judge the competition is British-Armenian comedian, musician and entertainer Kev Orkian, CEO of Jongleurs, who has performed internationally across stand-up, theatre and television. He will be joined on the judging panel by Sandra Hale.

There is also a Turkish Cypriot connection behind the event. Ebru Chichester, one of the co-founders of Enfield-based JTT Events, is of Turkish Cypriot heritage.

The competition has been designed to give emerging comedians a platform in front of both an audience and industry figures, while offering comedy fans a chance to see new talent develop as the contest progresses towards its October final.

Audience participation will form part of the experience too, with live crowd reaction helping add to the competitive atmosphere as the comedians try to secure their place in the next round.

Tickets are available for those who would rather enjoy the jokes from the safety of their seats, with each evening promising a mix of fresh stand-up, competition and audience interaction.
