Alternative Turkish rock band Mor ve Ötesi will be performing live in London tonight, Saturday 20 January. The band has been pivotal in shaping Turkey’s indie rock scene since bursting on to the scene in 1995 and the release of their debut album Şehir the following year.
In 2004 they won the Golden Orange Award for their single Bir Derdim Var, which featured on the soundtrack for Çağan Irmak’s film Mustafa Hakkında Herşey.
Two years later, their fifth album Büyük Düşler was named Best Album of the Year by Rolling Stone Turkey and also Best Rock Album of the Year by Blue Jean Magazine.
In 2008, they entered the Eurovision Song Contest for Turkey with their track Deli (‘Mad’), coming came seventh with 138 points.
The four-piece band, whose name means ‘ultraviolet’, currently comprises of Kerem Kabadayı (drums), Harun Tekin (vocals & guitar), Burak Güven (bass) and Kerem Özyeğen (lead guitar).
The last of their seven studio albums – Güneşi Beklerken – which includes the brilliant single Oyunbozan, was released in 2012. Fans can expect the band to delve into their back catalogue for some of their most anthemic hits as they play the O2 Academy Islington tonight. A few tickets will be available on the door.
