On Saturday 28 May, Cllr Parvez Ahmed, the current Mayor of Brent, Turkey’s Consul General Emirhan Yorulmazlar, Doğtaş CEO Hulusi Acar and K&A Ventures General Manager Enis Behar Menda officially opened the new Doğtaş Exclusive concept store in Brent South Shopping Park. Many other local and international dignitaries also attended the opening ceremony.
The opening of its new flagship store in Brent Cross brings the total number of Doğtaş concept stores in Britain to five and 195 worldwide. With the likes of Dfs and Sofology as its neighbours, it also brings Doğtaş into direct competition against the UK’s better-known home furniture brands.
Brent Cross is one of the capital’s leading retail hubs and Doğtaş is believed to be the first major Turkish brand to open a store there.
Cllr Parvez Ahmed – Brent’s first Mayor of Bangladeshi origin – welcomed the new business to the borough and invited other Turkish brands to follow suit. He said his council was ‘ready to assist and support businesses investing in Brent’.
New flagship store spread over three floors
Formerly the site of babywear shop Mamas and Papas, Doğtaş’s stunning new showroom is spread across three floors. Covering 1,000 m2, it offers consumers greater comfort, convenience and an even larger selection of stylish products.
Before cutting the ribbon on Saturday, Hulusi Acar told guests and media that what sets the company apart is its “investment in teams and designs”. This, Acar said, has turned Doğtaş into one of the furniture sector’s ‘defining brands’.
With 44 years of experience, Turkey’s market leader in furniture Doğtaş is renowned for its contemporary furniture designs for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms. Customers not only have a wide variety of well-made competitively priced products to choose from, but also a host of colours and features to suit their individual tastes.
The Doğtaş Exclusive UK service to shoppers includes free interior design, free delivery, free installation, and flexible payment options. In addition, the company boasts excellent after-sales services and ongoing product support. It is these elements which have helped the brand quickly take root in Britain.
The Doğtaş Exclusive Brent Cross store is located at Brent South Shopping Park, Unit G2, Tilling Road London NW2 1LS and is open seven days a week.
Doğtaş started as small family business in Çanakkale in 1972
The company first opened its doors as Doğan Furniture in Çanakkale, southwest Turkey in 1972. By 1987, the work of six brothers resulted in the creation of the Doğtaş brand – one of Turkey’s leading furniture manufacturers. In 2012, the company merged with Kelebek Mobilya, making it the country’s market leader in home furniture.
During the 90s, the company invested in technology from Europe, widened its retail network, opened showrooms across Turkey, and expanded its operations, which included making its first exports. Growth continued into the 2000s: in 2005, Doğtaş spent $10 million on a new 70,000 m2 mattress, sofa and bed factory, while its ongoing investments in innovative furniture designs were rewarded with the Industrial Design Registration Certificate that further strengthened the brand.
Over the past decade, the brand’s international investments have become a priority. Part of the Turquality programme, Doğtaş is among Turkey’s top brands that are supported by the Turkish state to help them grow and compete on the global stage.
Today Doğtaş products are available in 65 countries. The brand currently operates 195 concept stores: 143 of these are in Turkey and 52 in international locations such as Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna, Dubai, Riyadh, Nicosia, Sofia, Kavala, Baku, Cairo, Algiers, Ashgabat, Arbil, and Tehran. A further 24 showrooms are due to open in 2016.
K&A Ventures – Doğtaş’s UK partner
Acil Group and its successor K&A Ventures is a rapidly growing British furniture retailer, which aims to provide a world-class service with excellent products and prices.
The company was formed in 2010, opening the UK’s first Doğtaş concept store in Edmonton shortly after. They have added a further four branches in Harringay, Dalston, Catford and now Brent Cross.
The company has carved out a name for itself by importing well-known, trusted furniture brands to Britain. In 2013, it was presented with ‘The Most Successful Company’ award for its work with Doğtaş at the Most Successful Turk Awards, held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane.
