Competition: win a pair of tickets to see About Dry Grasses (Kuru Otlar Üstüne) at a Picturehouse Cinema

The award-winning Turkish film About Dry Grasses / Kuru Otlar Üstüne comes to cinemas across Britain and Ireland this Friday, 26 July.

Shot in Erzurum and Adıyaman, the movie centres on a schoolteacher, Samet, who is accused of inappropriate behaviour towards Sevim, one of his pupils in a school in a remote part of Turkiye.

It stars Merve Dizdar, who won Best Actress at Cannes last year for her role as Nuray, with Deniz Celiloğlu (Samet), and Ece Bağcı, who appears in her breakout role as 14-year-old schoolgirl Sevim, which won her Best Supporting Actress at the Chicago International Film Festival.

The 3-hour film by Turkiye’s top auteur Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who wrote, produced and directed About Dry Grasses, has already received many plaudits from film critics around the world.

“It’s the multiple layers of mystery – which have less to do with actual events than with what different characters are thinking – which make the film compelling,” wrote Jennie Kermode in Eye For Film, while Bilge Ebiri’s review for New York Magazine said: “About Dry Grasses is Ceylan’s longest film to date. It’s also among the most hypnotic works of his career, and certainly one of the best movies of this or any other year.”

To celebrate this latest cinematic masterpiece by Ceylan, T-VINE is giving away a pair of tickets to one of our lucky readers in the UK to watch at a Picturehouse Cinema of your choice.
