The standout psychedelic event of the year returns in 2023. Chanteuse Djanan Turan leads The Flying Karpet collective and guests for the fourth annual musical homage to the late, great Barış Manço.
The Istanbul-born star, who passed away in 1999, is one of the godfathers of Anatolian rock, forging a distinctive sound that continues to resonate not only in Turkiye, but around the world.
In 2019, Turan and friends took to the stage at London’s Jazz Café to celebrate this influential rock pioneer on the twentieth anniversary of his passing, playing his biggest hits to a packed audience, who happily added their vocals to each song.
Fast forward to 2022, and The Psychedelic World of Barış Manço has become an annual fixture in Turkish London’s social calendar, while also proving a big draw for fans of psychedelic rock. Join them on 12 January for a 90-minute live set.
About the performers
Singer/songwriter Djanan Turan, originally from Turkiye, has been at the forefront of the North London music scene for several decades. Her musical style effortlessly fuses earthy Turkish folk, with electronica and edgy global beats. She regularly performs with the emerging and highly talented Karpet Collective.
This renowned group of musicians from the London underground scene includes: Jomy Jomert (keys), Tansay Omar (drums), Berdin Pamukcu (guitar), Taha Turan (bass), Alice Mary Williamson (clarinet), and Elizabeth Nott (percussion).
This year, they will be joined by guest singers Dila Vardar and Çiğdem Aslan, to take you on a journey that oozes the best of Barış Manço.
In between the live music, DJ Burak Cetindag will be spinning an eclectic mix of 60s and 70s to early 80s Anatolian psychedelic rock, funk and jazz gems on the warm sounds of rare 7 inch vinyl.
