Finchley Türk Müziği Kulübü (Finchley Turkish Music Club) will bring together music and remembrance this November with a London concert dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.
Taking place at St Mary’s Church in Islington on Tuesday 10 November, the concert will feature songs loved by Atatürk, performed by the club’s choir, soloists and accompanying musicians.
The evening coincides with the 88th anniversary of Atatürk’s death. Türkiye’s first president died at Istanbul’s Dolmabahçe Palace on 10 November 1938. For Turkish communities at home and abroad, the date remains an occasion to reflect on his life and legacy.
Organiser Ümran Ashman told T-VINE that rehearsals are underway, and that Türkiye’s Consul General in London is supporting the concert and will attend.
“Our concert will feature our choir, together with soloists and instrumentalists. We will perform Atatürk’s favourite songs,” she said.
The organisers have also invited audiences to commemorate “the great figure who gifted us the Republic” through music, offering an opportunity for London’s Turkish diaspora and fellow music lovers to come together in remembrance.
Tickets can be purchased online through Eventbrite or directly from a choir member. Alternatively, audiences can contact the organisers to arrange payment by bank transfer.
