He could barely stand on ice three months ago, but reality TV winner Kem Cetinay is now sliding smoothly across the ice rink, turning, and lifting his partner Alex Murphy effortlessly. Last Sunday’s edition of Dancing on Ice was Disco-themed and the pair performed fabulously to I’m So Excited by the Pointer Sisters.
A born showman, Kem included several comedy moves in the routine, as well as a nod to his Turkish roots with a great shoulder shimmy shake. He looked sure-footed, lifting his partner off the ground several times including one impressive effort where Kem took hold of Alex’s hand and ankle to twirl her around.
It earned the pair a series high score of 23.5, with two 6.5s (out of a possible 10) from two of the judges, former Olympic Champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. Dean described Kem on ice as “frantic…like a wasp in a bottle, an excitable wasp, but a good wasp”.
One of the favourites to win Dancing on Ice, Kem and Alex’s main threat comes from Jake Quickenden and Vanessa Bauer who were in a spectacular form for Disco Week, scoring a mammoth 27.5 points, including three sevens. It meant the pair topped the leader board after three episodes.
At the other end of the spectrum Stephanie Waring lost the Skate Off against Lemar and was booted off by the judges, to leave ten skating couples to continue in the competition.
Dancing on Ice will be back on our screens on Sunday. Tune in to ITV at 6pm to see if Kem progresses to the next round.
