Critically acclaimed Derya Yıldırım and Grup Şimşek return to Britain later this year for two concerts, giving more fans and music lovers the chance to sample their fabulous sound.
Founded in 2014 and with three albums and one EP under their belt, this modern super-quartet has been electrifying audiences all over Europe with their Turkish psychedelic folk sound, epitomised by their latest long play, Dost 2.
Released in November 2022, Dost 2 was described by Boomkat as “reprising classic ‘70s styles with a timeless vivacity”, while Roots World called it a “magnificent record”.
German-born Derya Yıldırım leads the group, her hypnotising vocals and stunning skills on the bağlama reflective of how the band effortlessly fuses Anatolian folk with contemporary grooves, layered with psychedelia and progressive rock flavours.
The band represents the very best of Turkish folk traditions underpinned by original songwriting to create a strong, dancefloor-friendly sonic identity and irresistible energy.
Catch the band live when they play Bristol’s Strange Brew venue and EartH in East London this November.
