Tickets are selling fast for new pop talent Inci Gürün, who will be touring seven countries, including the UK, this autumn. Simply known as INJI, the Istanbul-born and now US based artist has been making waves since her debut single Gaslight went viral on TikTok in 2022.
Guitarist Alex Graf and fellow University of Pennsylvania student co-produced Gaslight with INJI on a shoestring budget, the jazz-infused track showcasing INJI’s gorgeous vocals. She states in interviews that one of her favourite artists is Amy Winehouse. The song’s follow-ups, Madeline and The One, confirmed INJI was no one hit wonder.
INJI, who is aged 23, has studied music from a young age, enrolling at the Istanbul State Music Conservatory in 2008 when she was just 7 years old. She moved to London for her high school years, where she added jazz and choir singing to her piano playing.
She continued her studies at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where she formed a jazz group with Graf and others, regularly performing on campus.
The Turkish singer-songwriter’s musical abilities are matched by her witty English lyrics, which are often set to Hyperpop (poppy electronic dance music), packaged into fun music videos that she not only stars in but also co-directs and produces. See Bellydance and Madeline as examples.
INJI’s undoubted creative talents, playful style and DIY approach to music making has not only brought her a ton of fans, but also caught the attention of the music industry, with the young starlet signing to Polydor Records.
Last year, she released her debut 7-track EP, LFG, which oozes joy, including her early and newer material. She’s set to embark on an international tour that takes in United States, Canada, Turkiye, Germany, Netherlands, France and Britain.
Tickets have virtually sold out for both of INJI’s live performances at the Manchester Deaf Institute and London’s Village Underground in October, so grab yours fast or look out for more dates in 2025.
