A classically trained singer and multi-instrumentalist who plays the flute, bağlama, and piano, Melek Mosso is undoubtedly a hugely talented performer and musician.
Her lucky break came when she appeared as a contestant on O Ses Türkiye [The Voice] in 2018. Mosso’s cover of Yıldız Tilbe’s song “Vursalar Ölemem” garnered over 15 million views on YouTube and opened the doors to the singer to release her own material.
The Kayseri-born star has been composing music since she was aged seven! At the age of nine, she began to take bağlama and Turkish folk music lessons at Denizli Municipality Conservatory. Mosso then attended a high school for fine arts, where she started playing the flute
From there, Mosso went on to Adnan Menderes University where she studied teaching music at the School of Education. Mosso also performed at university, singing in a choir and also as a soloist.
After graduating, Mosso moved to Istanbul, giving music lessons to talented students who wanted to prepare for conservatory exams.
In her spare time, Mosso could be found performing live as a busker for passengers travelling on the Kadıköy-Beşiktaş ferry. She also performed jazz and swing with Zbam The Band, which she founded with her musician friends.
After coming to prominence on the popular TV show O Ses Türkiye, fame beckoned for the talented artist, whose stage surname Mosso is an Italian musical term meaning ‘rapid acceleration’.
The 35-year-old star has released a host of singles since 2018 and a self-titled EP in 2020, showcasing her broad repertoire, from pop to jazz and folk. She has also collaborated with diverse range of music stars, such as rocker Haluk Levent, rapper Şanışer, and pop-folk singer Ceylan Ertem.
Today, with a host of hit songs under her belt, including Kedi, Hiç Işık Yok (which appeared on the soundtrack for hit TV drama Çukur), and Vursalar Ölemem, Mosso’s music can regularly be heard on Turkish television and radio.
Hear her live at Indigo at The O2 at the end of April.
