West London Turkish Festival is one of the UK’s largest Turkish festivals, attracting a 10,000 strong crowd from diverse ethnic backgrounds, who are all keen to experience authentic Turkish culture and hospitality.
Organised by the West London Turkish Volunteers, a UK charity based in southwest London, this family-friendly festival has been running since 2016 and offers a fun and affordable day out for people of all ages.
Tuck into a rich variety of delicious Turkish food and drink, including gözleme (stuffed Turkish flatbreads), kebabs, pide and lahmacun (Turkish pizza), and sip on Turkish tea, ayran or Turkish coffee made the traditional way on hot sand. Buy a host of items from the arts and craft stands, including fezes and handmade jewellery, and enjoy live traditional and contemporary Turkish music, folk dancing and puppet theatre.
The audience gets a chance to participate too! You can learn to folk dance, play in a mini adult football tournament, and dress in Ottoman costumes, while kids get to take part in tug-of-war, do the sack race, get their faces painted, jump on fun fair rides – plenty to experience with family and friends all day long!
Entry to the festival for those who book tickets in advance is a shade under £2 per person, which includes the booking fee. Buying advance tickets also means being able to skip the long queues when you arrive at the event.
Profits from the festival will go towards the construction of the new West London Turkish community and education centre, which is one of the reasons the festival is charging an entry fee this year.
