If you’re in South London and looking for a musical escape from all the political madness of Election Day on Thursday, there’s a fab night on offer at Lewisham’s Fox & Firkin featuring three talented ladies, including Ela Özyılmaz.
They appear on the SISTAS in JAZZ platform, which is dedicated to showcasing “exceptional womxn in the London jazz scene”. The organisers are keen to promote “underexposed talent and diverse music styles, and their Sounds and Space nights are well known for their quality eclectic vibes weaving diverse sounds including Afrobeat, Latin, electronic, and now Turkish, in a “space that generates connection and discovery.”
Ela Ozyilmaz
Blending her earthy, oriental vocals with politically-driven, poetic lyricism, Ela Özyılmaz speaks to the forgotten, yet inevitable correlation between nature and the human experience.
The London-based artist inspires listeners to look inside and heal through the emotive sounds throughout her work.
Her musicality, rooted in Turkish culture and passion for jazz, is evident in her hypnotic, dissonant harmonies, fuelling the atmosphere of an otherworldly, moody ambience.

Tilda Allie
Also on the bill is Tilda Allie In a battlefield of lo-fi-beats, Tilda Allie emerges as a formidable force, infusing soulful electronica into the musical landscape.
Hailing from Sweden and currently based in the vibrant Southeast London, Tilda’s jazz exploration delves into alternative soundscapes, seamlessly blending melancholic melodies and cinematic elements by the likes of Bjork, Sunda Arc and James Blake.
She’s been published in magazines like DNu and Wordplay and played iconic festivals such as Boomtown and Glastonbury.
Gigi Williams
The trio of artists for Thursday also includes Gigi Williams is a musician born and raised in London. Her jazz style fuses soul and folk with guitar-led instrumentals.
Her influences span from Lianne La Havas to Jordan Rakei and Angel Olsen.
As well as being selected as one of the Roundhouse Rising artists for 2023, she has played festivals such as Wild Paths, Kite Festival and Brick Lane Jazz Festival.
She has received support from Jamie Cullum, Tina Edwards among others. In 2024 she will be releasing her second EP Big Picture, featuring the single ‘Oh Nina’.For fans of Lianne La Havas, Hiatus Kaiyote, Jordan Rakei and Angel Olsen.
Her radio show ‘Shelf-Raiders’ can be found on Balamii and explores music history through lesser-known albums.
