In the dreamy world of Dirmit, we find a young girl growing up in Türkiye facing a host of hardships and pressures at home and outside in an increasingly cruel and volatile society.
Based on Latife Tekin’s monumental novel, Sevgili Arsiz Olum – Dirmit [Dear Shameless Death – Dirmit] is a powerful play, adapted for the stage and performed by the exceptionally talented Nezaket Erden.
Marking a milestone in Turkish fiction, this hallucinogenic-like story grapples with feminism, the right to equal opportunity, and what it means to be a girl child growing up in Türkiye.
Sevgili Arsiz Olum – Dirmit will be staged for one night only at the RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) Studios. The performance will be entirely in Turkish with no surtitles.
The event includes a 30-minute panel discussion after the performance, where actress Nezaket Erden will be joined by Sinem Hun, a gender consultant, and Nilüfer Atalay, a co-founder and trustee of Turkey Mozaik Foundation, to discuss the themes raised in the play.
Net proceeds and all donations from this event will go towards Turkey Mozaik Foundation’s Gender Equality Fund.
