The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is taking place on Friday 28 September, with Britons across the length and breadth of the country sipping coffee to raise money for charity. The Turkish Cypriot Community Association (TCCA) is taking part too!
The Harringay-based community group is hosting its own Coffee Morning event to help recognise and support the incredible work done by Macmillan Cancer Support. It is part of a nationwide fundraising event involving tens of thousands of people in the UK coming together for a coffee (or tea) on the same day.
The event has been running annually since 1990, helping to generate over £200 million for the charity. Last year, Macmillan raised over £27 million through its Coffee Mornings and it’s hoping to emulate that success in 2018.
It’s hard to find a family which has not been touched by cancer. Macmillan specialise in giving support to those affected, both the sufferers and their families. Many British Turks have also benefited from the charity’s support, so it’s fitting for local community groups to help raise money for this important cause.
Known for its charitable works, the TCCA is tapping into the community’s heritage for this fundraiser, adding a Turkish slant to its Coffee Morning, and everyone is welcome! Expect lovely Turkish coffee, a good natter, and perhaps some readings of coffee cups.
Whether you come alone or with friends, it will be a warm gathering. TCCA is also encouraging participants to bring photos of loved ones lost to cancer to display during the morning get together to help commemorate them.
For those who like to bake, the TCCA is happy to receive cake donations or other nibbles as part of the Coffee Morning. Cash donations to the charity will also be taken on the day: all support given, however small, is gratefully received.
