Turkish Cypriot crooner Atila Huseyin is back live in London this weekend performing the early works of Nat King Cole, which feature on his new album King for a Day – the Music of the Nat Cole Trio.
The show, at the award-winning Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho, includes familiar numbers such as Nature Boy, Unforgettable and When I fall in Love. Velvet-voiced Nat Cole’s unique renditions of these well-known songs not only helped propel him to fame in the late 1930s and early 1940s when he transitioned from jazz pianist to singer, but also earned him a place among the all-time greats in the history of American music.
Atila and his fantastic four-piece band comprising piano, bass, drums, and guitar deliver a fresh take on these timeless classics and lesser known gems from Nat’s early career. Their arrangements are tight and the interpretations warm, playful and sincere, taking audiences back to a beautiful by-gone era.
It is a highly entertaining show, as anyone who attended Atila’s album launch party at the Hippodrome Casino in May can attest. Tickets are available from the venue.
