Organisers of the British Turkish Cypriot community’s second big festival return to an in-person format for the fifth edition of their Turkish Cypriot Culture and Arts Festival and this year they are holding the event indoors. Dominion Theatre in Wood Green, North London, is hosting the all-day event that takes place on the last Sunday in June.
NOTCO promises an all-day extravaganza for guests, who can indulge in traditional Cypriot foods, folk dancing, comedy sketches, and, of course, lots of music.
This year’s headliner is pop star Ziynet Sali (pictured top), whose hits include Kalbim Tatilde, Bana da Söyle, Rüya, and Ağlar mıyım? Ağlamam. The Lefkoşa-born Turkish Cypriot singer spent time growing up in Manchester before moving back to Cyprus with her family to complete her education. She moved to Istanbul to study music, graduating from the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory in 1999, releasing her first album the following year.
Ziynet has collaborated with many of Turkiye’s leading artists and producers, including Sezen Aksu, Sıla, Yıldız Tilbe, Mustafa Ceceli, Kenan and Ozan Doğulu, and Ozan Çolakoğlu. Her repertoire includes singing in Greek and she has released songs in the rebetiko style.
Other acts confirmed for the festival include electric oud player Hüseyin Erdinç, UK Garage-Turkish fusion singer TruBlue, Kral Eray, Serkan Kelebek, Kıbrıs Dörtlüsü, the Mask Art Theatre Group, and DJ Celil.
Ticket prices start from £5 for balcony seats and go up to £15 for the seats nearest the stage.
