The Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus (TRNC) and National Unity Party (UBP) leader Ersin Tatar will be in London for a short visit between 10 and 13 February.
Mr Tatar, who is a candidate in the upcoming TRNC Presidential elections, will be meeting with a variety of Parliamentarians during this three-day trip to the British capital.
On Tuesday night, Prime Minister Tatar will be the keynote speaker at a public conference in Turkish, where he will address a variety of topical issues including North Cyprus’ international isolation, voting and representation rights for TRNC citizens living in Britain, and compulsory military service, which deters many young male British Turkish Cypriots from visiting the TRNC.
The event is being organised by the UBP Londra Dayanışma Derneği (London Solidarity Association) and will take place at the Regency Banqueting Suite in North London. It is free of charge, and open to members of the public.
The UBP leader is favourite to win the TRNC Presidential elections in April. He has called for an end to the 40-year-old Cyprus talks to unite Cyprus as a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, instead throwing his weight behind a two-state solution. A recent poll in the TRNC shows 81% of Turkish Cypriots also prefer two separate states.
