Little Ada Bıçakçı to be laid to rest on Monday after Bexleyheath bus crash

The funeral of a nine-year-old girl who died two weeks ago after being hit by a bus in Bexleyheath will be held on Monday.

The multi-faith service for Ada Bıçakçı will start at the family home at 10.30am on August 19, followed by a service at St Paul’s Garden at 11.30am.

From there, little Ada will be taken to Green Acres Kemnal Park Cemetery in Sidcup, where she will be laid to rest. There will be an “open mic” at the Chapel at the cemetery at 12.30pm, so mourners can pay their respects.

Ada, her five-year-old brother and a family member were out walking near to their home on Saturday morning, 3 August, when a bus struck them at around 9am. The siblings were rushed to hospital for treatment, but sadly little Ada’s injuries were too severe and she tragically passed away two days later.

Bus driving arrested

The bus driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and drug-driving and has been bailed until early November, the Metropolitan Police said. They have also appealed for witnesses to come forward, including those with dashcam footage of the incident.

Police said Ada, a British-Turkish national, was a keen gymnast and swimmer, who lived in Bexleyheath and attended a local primary school. She was also a pupil at the Rauf R. Denktaş Turkish School in Blackfen.

Ada’s organs donated to 6 children

Following her death, Ada’s parents Bora and Nevgül Bıçakçı agreed for her organs to be donated to help six other children. Anthony Clarkson, Director of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation at the NHS, wrote to the family thanking them that in their hour of deepest grief, they were able to give “hope for a future” to those waiting urgently for a transplant.

Ada’s parents have also launched a fundraising campaign to raise money for the emergency services and the hospital that “soaked us in love” after being “shattered into pieces” by the untimely death of their eldest child.

Family launch fundraiser in Ada’s name

“One became six, living in new places”, wrote the family in reference to Ada’s organs helping six other children live, before adding:

“Thanks are not enough to show our gratitude. We’ll honor Ada with acts of magnitude. The funds will support those who helped us through, from emergency services to our hospital too.”

The fundraiser on GoFundMe, which was created on August 14, has already smashed through its initial target of £2,500, raising £12,500 at the time of writing.

The GoFundMe page also notes how Ada voluntarily cut her hair for charity two months ago. The picture is captured in a digital Memory Box dedicated to Ada, which also contains photos of Ada in hospital, and the scene of the crash, where well-wishers left flowers and handwritten tributes to the young schoolgirl.

One read, “Sleep tight little princess”, while another said, “RIP Little princess. Fly with the Angels. Gone too soon. Thinking of you all at this emotional time.”

T-VINE extends its deepest sympathies to the Bıçakçı family and Ada’s friends at this difficult time, may she rest in perfect peace.
