Shacklewell Lane Mosque – the UK’s first Turkish owned mosque that seeks to cater for modern Muslims – is hosting the Yoga Connects' Winter Solstice on Monday evening. This privately-run event, rooted in Shamanic tribal beliefs, is open to people of all levels, from beginners to advanced yogis, helping to bring as many people together during this festive month of December. There are modifications for the different levels – “trust is the key” say the organisers. The 2.5 hour event includes a delicious cacao ceremony – a traditional Shamanic blessing to open hearts and speak prayers to the land where the festival is held on. It’s followed by meditation with Urban Avatars' Felix Price and Diahann Love Holder, and a partner yoga session with Nick Elisseos and Daniela Olds. As ever, live music plays a major role with the Connection Tribe creating a meditative soundscape, so expect didgeridoos, crystal singing bowls and hang drums to keep the yoga flowing. A family-friendly event, partners are not required, as the session is all about gathering and meeting new friends. Attendees should, however, bring a yoga mat & warm clothes for the meditation.
