All welcome to Cyprus Islamic Association’s ‘Iftar and Charity Evening’

The UK’s Cyprus Islamic Association is holding its annual İftar and Charity Evening on Sunday 11 June at the TCCA in Harringay, North London. The event is open to all in the community and will begin with prayers from the holy Kuran, and continue with a khutba (special talk) and iftar (breaking of fast) meal.

Ahmet Yusuf, a young Cypriot who has studied classical traditional Islam, will address the guests with a talk in English on ‘Peace in Our Times’ through the Sufi perspective. The theme is in keeping with the sacred month of Ramazan, where Muslims are encouraged to undergo self-inspection, and exude even greater calmness and peace, which helps to preserve vital energy during their 30-day fast.

The evening will include nasheeds (Islamic devotional songs) and a communal iftar. There will also be a talk by group chair Husayn Hoca about the charities the Cyprus Islamic Association is supporting this year. Guests will be invited to contribute what they can to the charities as part of their annual fitre (annual charitable donations to the poor at the end of the month of Ramazan).
