A romantic comedy set in Cyprus and written in the Turkish Cypriot dialect is set to hit the stage in Catford later this month. Parsel Parsel, written by Zalihe Susuzlu and Aygün Kencer, will make its UK theatrical debut at Conisborough College, which is also home to Dr. Fazıl Küçük Turkish School.
Parsel Parsel is a satire based on the life of Turkish Cypriots after the 1974 War, when it was common for people to loot unoccupied properties. The story builds around a romance, while offering a keen look at those who benefitted from the spoils of war (‘ganimet’ in Turkish) and those who lost out. The play will not only have you in stitches, but also get you thinking about one of the more taboo aspects of the Cyprus conflict.
The new play travels to London after a strong run in Cyprus last year. It is produced by Mağusa-based Zalihe Susuzlu Theatre Company one of North Cyprus’ best known theatre groups.
The cast of Parsel Parsel features: Huseyin Sencar, Melisa Basriogu, Aygun Kencer, Salime Saglamer, Eda Turkes, Tezer Oguzkan, Hasan Mercan, and Nigar Aylanc.
The play has some bawdy comedy and is suitable for adults over the age of 16. Tickets are priced £15 and are available in advance from Dr. Fazıl Küçük Turkish School or on the night.
