King Charles and Queen Camilla send “warmest good wishes” to Turks celebrating centenary of the Republic of Türkiye

The British monarch, King Charles III, has sent a congratulatory message to the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, ahead of Sunday’s celebrations for the one hundredth anniversary of the Turkish Republic.

Details of the letter, signed Charles R, were shared on social media by the British Embassy in Ankara. In it, King Charles touches on the “kind hospitality” of the Turks and his admiration of their “resilience” following the devastating earthquakes earlier this year.

The King ends my stating that he and his wife, Queen Camilla, send “Turkish people everywhere” their “warmest good wishes” as they celebrate Türkiye’s centenary.

The message in full

Dear Mr President,

I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Your Excellency, and the people of the Republic of Türkiye, on this special day for your country, marking the centenary of the foundation of the nation.

I fondly remember my visit in 2015, and the kind hospitality I encountered from the Turkish people. I deeply admire the resilience shown by the people of Türkiye in their ongoing reconstruction efforts, following the devastating earthquakes in February this year.

I look forward to the continuing warm relationship and increasingly close partnership between our two countries. I am sure that this positive relationship will continue to go from strength to strength.

As you, and the Turkish people everywhere, celebrate Türkiye’s centenary, my wife joins me in sending you our warmest good wishes.
